Vertu’s Custom Ballet Performance
A lot of work goes into a custom dance performance, from casting the dancers, choreography, costuming, rehearsals right through to the performance. This particular show how ever took just a few weeks to put together thanks the amount of amazingly talented Ballet performers and teachers here in singapore
THE BRIEF
Vertu wanted a Neo-classical Ballet performance to go along with their new exclusive mobile phone range. Their brief came in the form of a promo video:
THE DANCERS
First we set about finding the Dancers, Luckily being a entertainment company we already knew the perfect selection of dancers for this event:
- Gabby
- Jeslyn
- Serene
Jeslyn is from Singapore and graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. She participated in the Asia Pacific Competition and won 2nd place for solo category and 1st place in the CSTD competition (Singapore).
Sareen is from Singapore and a classical ballet teacher at the Grandstand with some of the highest ballet qualifications available.
And Gabrielle who is an award winning prima ballerina from Sweden currently residing and working in singapore
MUSIC & CHOREOGRAPHY
Once we had established the Performer for the show we started looking at the music that would be used – a lot of ideas were brought up and eventually we had our music – “The Shanghai Restoration Project – Black Sheep” and Gabrielle was appointed choreographer due to her vast experience in Neo-classical Ballet. The Performers had 3 rehearsals of 2 – 3hrs long in order to learn the dance and rehearse it for performance.
COSTUMING/STYLING
Vertu wanted to have similar styling as in their promo video, white tutu and to have a deer head. However they where keen on the costuming to be more modern for this performance as the full head deer mask was difficult to do a full performance in. A mask was suggested which would give the dancers more flexibility within the performance. Through extensive research we came up with many different ideas for the mask but this was our favourite a Paper made mask by Phillip Valdez
We made the masks in-house and you can learn how we made the Vertu mask here. Our masks were made from wire, clay, card and felt. And here is the finished product:
- Vertu Ballet dancers
- Snack before the Show
- Serene
- Photo Opp Wall
